Canon Charles

Name: Canon Charles Tober
Date: June 4, 2010
Weight: 11 lbs 12 oz
Height: 23 1/4"

Once upon a time I was pregnant and now I am not. THE END!!

Just Kidding. John and I made the decision to have this little one at home. There was a lot to consider and work through, but after an appointment with Margie, the midwife, John and I knew we would be in good hands.

Friday, June 4, 2010

I woke up around 2ish and pee'd. No contractions. I woke up at 4 AM and had to hit the bathroom again this time with the runs (slightly embarrassing to admit but all a natural part of labor). I came back to bed and back in the bathroom, the runs. John wakes.

John: "Babe, is everything ok?"
Kathy: "Yes, I'm just having the runs."

Back in the bathroom.

Kathy: "Do you think we should time my bathroom visits?"
John: "I don't know, I thought you said this was the runs."
Kathy: "Let's just time them to be sure."

5 minutes
5 minutes
4 minutes
4 minutes
3 1/2 minutes

Kathy: "Maybe I will take a shower."

2 minutes in the shower.

Kathy: "We better call someone."
John: "Are you sure?"
Kathy: "Yes."

At 4:30ish we started to make the phone calls to Katie and Margie the midwife.

Once Katie arrived I was much more at ease with what was happening. I gave her the run down of what was happening and quickly she sprung into action. I instantly felt calm and at peace with what was to come.

At 5:30ish Margie arrived. I had been laboring on the toilet for about an hour and my legs were numb. I turned to Katie and let her know I wanted to lay down. I went to the bed and quickly decided the toilet was a better place. Before I headed back to the toilet I wanted to know what I was dilated to. I was told that Margie would check me between contractions.

Kathy: "Ok, I am ready....WAIT! No....Ok, I am ready....WAIT! No."

Margie checked anyway and found a bag of water. Somewhere in the midst of talking I heard the words push. I rolled over on my back and well, the rest is history.

Canon was born at 5:49 AM. Healthy, huge, and so cute!

One by one our kids awoke to find their new little brother here at last.

Words can't completely describe the feelings I felt that day in my little room, with my husband, my mom, my close friend, midwife, and my little family. This neat experience really didn't hit me until the next day. I sat on my bed looking at this little guy thinking to myself, "the Lord trusts you." To me that was so humbling. He trusts that I will call on Him in prayer often, read my scriptures daily, live up to my covenants, so that I am fully dependent and prepared to listen to the guidance I need in raising this child. Many more feelings have been felt in these last few days that I feel are personal to me and not a blog post.

I am so grateful to my Father in Heaven and all that I have learned from this experience. I am grateful for the spirit that was felt in my home that morning. I am grateful for the peace I felt in the moments he came to this earth. I am grateful for my loving husband and kids. I am grateful for Katie and her calming spirit and the overall person that she is. I am grateful for Margie in helping us get this little, I mean huge, guy here safely.

It's nice that i can hear your side of the story, although Johns was pretty good too, you just added more details. The only thing your story is missing is,well, me. these words, "and then I called Laura" :)
