Family Crisis

This sweet little thing wants a CAT for her birthday. I do not want a cat in the house, I'm just starting to get used to the fish we have.

I took her to Target and showed her the stuffed cats and asked which one she wanted for her birthday. She said, "These are dead I want one that's alive." I have tried distracting her with other enticing toys like Barbie. Nope, not working.

Last night I gave her the talk.

"Eyrlin, sometimes we don't always get what we want." Me
"But mom, you can get them at the pet store." Eyrlin
"No sweety, we aren't getting a cat, I'm sorry." Me
"Why did they run away?" Eyrlin
Thinking long and hard about this one lie I might have to say, "Yep they all ran away."
"Ok, I want a dead cat" Eyrlin

Now the guilt is setting in....... Should I get her a kitten?? I have 2 days to decide. HELP!

Dang pets. I told Hailey she can't have one until we live in a place where they can be outside without frying and she seems okay with it so far.=) About the computer stuff, I will have them contact you. What is the problem you are having?

I am a non inside pet person - I've got enough poop to clean up as it is - so perhaps my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. So here goes. . . cats are gross.

I vote for the dead cat.

I vote for the dead cat too. NOT a huge fan of animals. I don't want more responsibility or mess. :) But I know that you want to give your sweet little girl what she wants. I am a HUGE sucker when it comes to stuff like that. You do what you gotta do for those cute kids that you love so much!!! GOOD LUCK DECIDING!!

My vote is no! The only good cat is a dead one. That sounded pretty harsh. Just think, the stuffed one doesn't smell and scratch all of your stuff. :)

okay...here goes from a cat person! I have had a cat since my first was born...over 5 years ago. It is great my kids have grown up with him because they really know how to treat animals now. Cats are really really easy. They meow but its doable. Mine is inside and outside. Litter box in garage as well as food. I would just have it declawed...for sure. Good luck! Don't feel guilty though if you don't get one. Ultimately its you that will be in charge of it!

I LOVE animals, especially our dog Shelby. But, I don't think you should get a kitten until your daughter is much older and willing to care for it herself.

I'm sure I'll relent as mine get older but we just have a hard, fast stuffed animals only policy right now. I figure when we get a pet we (I) need to be ready to give it the time, attention, cleaning, vets etc, etc. it'll need. I just tell my daughter the same thing my mom told me, "your pets are your brothers." I had 3 and so does she:)

I don't see anything wrong with a little lie like that. Who doesn't do that. Maybe they did run away. Or maybe if you did get a cat it would run away, and then what? You would have a sad little girl and a lost birthday present. Dean cats don't run away.

Oh and what is up with you not wanting to hang out with us anymore. First playgroup and now Bunco.

I tried calling you about the computer work. I know you are busy, but would it be okay if Blake and his brother stopped by Tuesday night sometime around 6 or 7? Let me know.=)

No! Haven't you read my kitty blogging lately? One cat turns into 4 and then you have to figure out what to do with them. Dead kitties are super nice!

I can't believe that you won't give her anything she wants for her birthday!! What kind of parents are you?!! You know my kids get EVERYTHING they ask for... :) I'm just waiting for the day one of them asks for a commercial jetliner. I think we have enough space in the backyard. (PS I vote no on any pet you don't want to take care of because ultimately that's who will do it)
